The first week of December 2012 saw the media flooded by the news of television celebrity Anderson Cooper’s temporary blindness. The facts are as follows:
AC eye patchCooper was on a boat on the Atlantic Ocean for a couple of days. His eyes were exposed to sunlight reflecting off the water. Evidently, Cooper hadn’t been wearing sunglasses.
As for symptoms, Cooper explained at the time: “I wake up in the middle of the night and it feels like my eyes are on fire…and I think oh maybe I have sand in my eyes or something.” He went blind for 36 hours.
